G'Day... they call me Damo,
I live in Milton Keynes, I work for Geecko Web Design and I love creating websites !
Hello World
I wrote my first computer program in BASIC on a TRS-80 computer when I was 8 years old. It was only 2 lines of code and looked like this -
- 10 Print "Hello World "
- 20 Goto 10
I got as far as creating simple database applications such as an application for my Dad to store and track our family tree.
When I started at college I discovered electronics which had fascinated me because I always had to find out how things worked. I studied for 3 years to get my Diploma in Electronics Engineering only to find that the world had become a disposable society where it's cheaper to replace your electronic gizmos than to get them repaired.
This led me to try many different things after graduating including -
- Working on a coal mine site

- Driving a Crane/ Forklift/ Front end loader

- Electrical Trades Assistant

- Stores Stock Controller

- Electronics Test Engineer

- Warehouse Picker Packer

- Clamp Truck Driver

- Warehouse Administrator

- Perpentual Stock Controller

- Supply Chain Data Analyst

- KPI Website Development

Yeah I know this is a long list and no I am not really old.
I then studied in my spare time to complete a Microsoft applications programming course while working as a Clamp Truck Driver. It was this qualification that enabled me to make my first move into the office environment which is when I rediscovered my passion in computing and IT.
After spending the next few years re-educating myself with office and administration my wife said to me "Can you make me a website for my podiatry business?" This was my first website and my introduction into web design and the creative side of the internet.
Since 2003 I have been constantly learning new and better ways of combining my knowledge of database design, programming and web design. In 2006 I met Keefo who taught me a great deal about networks and internet stuff (read about Keefo), then in 2008 we took the plunge to create a partnership called Geecko Web Design.
I have never enjoyed my work as much as I do now.
